Shearer leads NKU with two-day total of 153 |

COLUMBUS, Ind. - The Northern Kentucky University mens golf team posted a fifth-place finish at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships on Tuesday with a two-day score of 633. The tournament was called after 36 holes due to inclement weather at the par-72 at Otter Creek Golf Course. The two-day event was originally scheduled for 54 holes. Bellarmine University captured the title with a final score of 612, six strokes better than runner-up Lewis University (618). The University of Southern Indiana finished in third place with a total of 624. NKU was led by freshman David Shearer, who posted a sixth-place finish in the individual competition with a two-day total of 153. Shearer, a native of Charlevoix, Mich., shot a 4-over-par 76 Tuesday and earned GLVC Freshman of the Year honors for his performance at the GLVC Championships. The Norses Curtis Phelps tied for 11th place after shooting 78-78 for a total of 156. Brandon Parsons posted a 28th-place finish with a score of 161, and Jonathan Ehlen was 30th with a two-day total of 163. Jason Buffone of Lewis won the medal with a two-day score of 148. Bellarmines Tyler Fields finished second with a total of 149, while Ryan Kohler of Quincy University took third-place honors with a score of 150. |
