NKU DEFEATS UW-STEVENS POINT, 64-60

Norse win John L. Griffin/Lions Club Classic championship

 

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Brian Lawhon scored 25 points Saturday night as the Northern Kentucky University men’s basketball team defeated the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, 64-60, in the championship game of the John L. Griffin/Lions Club Classic in Regents Hall.

Lawhon’s three-pointer with just more than three minutes remaining gave NKU (2-0) a 60-58 lead. Adam Norwell later hit a short jumper to make the score 62-58, and the Norse held off UWSP (1-1) to capture the title.

UWSP’s Brant Bailey scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds to earn the tournament’s most valuable player honor. Lawhon and Billy Brewster (12 points) earned All-Tournament honors for NKU, and Norse guard Craig Conley was named the tournament’s best defensive player.

NKU will play host to Shawnee State University at 7:45 p.m. this Tuesday night in Regents Hall.
