HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky Universitys Quentin Smith has been named Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in mens basketball. Smith, a senior forward and a graduate of Mount Healthy High School in Cincinnati, averaged 22.5 points, 12.0 rebounds and shot 80 percent from the field to lead the Norse to a pair of wins last week. Smith started with a 23-point, 10-rebound effort during NKUs 91-69 win over Saint Josephs. He then totaled 22 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and scored the winning basket with 13.5 seconds remaining in the game Saturday as the Norse edged Wisconsin-Parkside, 76-75. On that play, Smith grabbed an offensive rebound and powered his way for the go-ahead basket. For the season, Smith averages 14.0 ppg and a team-leading 7.9 rebounds per game. He is also shooting 57.2 percent from the field, and he has 12 steals. It marks the second time this season that Smith has earned the GLVC weekly honor. |
