NKU KNOCKS OFF OLIVET NAZARENE, 99-59

Sanders scores career-high 32 points as Norse improve to 4-0

 

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Sophomore guard Craig Sanders scored a career-high 32 points Saturday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University men’s basketball team defeated Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) University, 99-59, in Regents Hall.

Sanders, whose previous career high was 31 points against Central State last season, made 7 of 12 three-point attempts as NKU improved to 4-0. The Norse connected on 17 of 37 three-point attempts and won the rebounding battle by a 44-34 margin.

Junior guard Brian Lawhon made 3 of 8 three-point attempts and finished with 15 points, and junior forward Billy Brewster added 12 points and eight rebounds. Eleven players scored for the Norse, who forced 21 turnovers by Olivet Nazarene (6-2).

The win was NKU head coach Ken Shields’ 197th with the Norse. He is looking to become the first men’s basketball coach in NKU history to reach to 200-win plateau.

NKU will open up its Great Lakes Valley Conference schedule this Thursday night at 8:30 p.m. with a game at Lewis University in Romeoville, Ill.
