NKU RETURNS HOME TO MEET INDY

Norse (4-1) look to bounce back from loss at UW-Parkside

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University men’s basketball team is now 4-1 after dropping a 67-54 decision at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside this past Monday night in Kenosha, Wis. The Norse are 1-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and will return home Thursday night at 7:45 p.m. to host the University of Indianapolis (3-1, 1-1 GLVC) in Regents Hall. Quincey Moman scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds Monday night to lead Wisconsin-Parkside past NKU. Marlon Grice added 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists as Wisconsin-Parkside remained unbeaten (4-0 overall, 2-0 GLVC). The Rangers shot 60.7 percent from the field in the second half to break open a close game and held the Norse to just 38.3 percent shooting from the field. Wisconsin-Parkside won the rebounding battle by a 41-26 margin and limited NKU to 1 of 10 shooting from three-point range in the second half. For the game, the Norse made just 3 of 19 three-point attempts. Brenden Stowers led NKU with 17 points, and Craig Sanders added 11 points. Darnell Fields chipped in 10 points for the Norse. TOUGH PLACE TO PLAY: Wisconsin-Parkside has now beaten NKU three of the past four times the Norse have visited Kenosha, Wis. The Rangers handed NKU an 81-60 loss a year ago in Kenosha, and the previous season the Norse pulled out a win in double overtime at the De Simone Gymnasium. In 1998-99, the Rangers handed the Norse an 85-72 loss in Kenosha. TOUGH PLACE TO PLAY, PART II: NKU’s Carl Mitchell (14.0 ppg) and Bobby St-Preux (13.6 ppg) were both held below double figures in scoring on Monday. It marked the first time this season that Mitchell and St-Preux did not reach double figures. THE STREAK CONTINUES FOR SANDERS: NKU’s Craig Sanders has now scored in double figures in 25 consecutive games dating back to last season. The last time Sanders was held below double figures was Jan. 6, 2001, during a 90-75 loss at Southern Indiana. The NKU record for consecutive games in double figures is 39, set by Brady Jackson. Sanders enters Thursday’s game against Indianapolis with 1,544 career points, which ranks No. 6 in Norse history. Sanders, who averages 17.0 ppg this season, needs 437 points to pass Brady Jackson (1,980 points) as NKU’s all-time leading scorer. CAREER GAME FOR FIELDS: NKU’s Darnell Fields scored a career-high 10 points during the loss at Wisconsin-Parkside on Monday. Fields made 4 of 7 shots from the floor and had four rebounds in 18 minutes of play. ABOUT INDIANAPOLIS: The Greyhounds are 3-1 after posting a 77-45 win at Saint Joseph’s College on Monday. Indianapolis is 1-1 in the GLVC. Senior forward Cedric Moodie, a Ball State University transfer, leads the Greyhounds in scoring (13.8 ppg) and rebounding (5.8 rpg). Moodie poured in a season-high 24 points at Wisconsin-Parkside last Saturday. Freshman guard David Logan averages 11.5 ppg and has made 47.1 percent of his three-point attempts. Junior forward Brad Borgman averages 9.5 ppg and is perfect (10 of 10) at the free throw line this season. THE LAST TIME AGAINST INDIANAPOLIS: On Feb. 13, 2001, Craig Sanders and Brian Lawhon both scored 18 points as NKU defeated Indianapolis, 96-66, at Nicoson Hall. Lawhon made all six of his three-point attempts for NKU, which made 14 of 24 three-point attempts and shot 63.6 percent from the field. The Norse built a 51-28 halftime lead and coasted to the victory. In their other meeting last season, NKU pulled out a 94-87 win in Regents Hall on Dec. 5, 2000. Craig Sanders scored 19 points for the Norse, and Todd Clark added 15 points and eight rebounds. Craig Conley added 15 points and seven assists for NKU, which survived a 15-of-31 three-point shooting performance by Indianapolis. THE STREAK AGAINST INDIANAPOLIS: NKU has beaten Indianapolis five consecutive times. The Norse have not lost to Indianapolis since Feb. 9, 1999, when the Greyhounds posted an 81-71 win over NKU in Regents Hall.
