Norse advance to Disney Tip-Off Classic championship game

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Junior forward Carl Mitchell scored 12 points and had six rebounds Saturday night as the Northern Kentucky University men’s basketball team defeated Bentley (Mass.) College, 70-61, in the semifinals of the Disney Division II Tip-Off Classic at the Wide World of Sports Fieldhouse.

NKU (2-0) built a 41-34 halftime lead as Mitchell and Adam Norwell both scored eight points. The Norse shot 48.1 percent from the field during the first half and made 10 of 13 free throws.

Sophomore guard Brenden Stowers scored six of his 11 points in the second half as NKU pulled away from Bentley (1-1). Norwell and Craig Sanders both finished with 10 points for NKU, which will face either Rollins (Fla.) or Southwest (Minn.) State at 6 p.m. Sunday in the championship game.
