NKU’S SHIELDS EARNS GLVC HONOR

Stowers, Smith and Kelsey also receive GLVC accolades

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University men’s basketball head coach Ken Shields has earned Great Lakes Valley Conference co-Coach of the Year honors, the league announced Tuesday.

Shields guided NKU to the GLVC Tournament championship, and the Norse enter the NCAA Division II Tournament with a 25-5 record. Shields, who also was GLVC Coach of the Year in 1995, shared this season's honor with Kentucky Wesleyan’s Ray Harper.

NKU senior guard Brenden Stowers was named first team All-GLVC by the league coaches. Stowers, the GLVC Tournament’s most valuable player last week after leading NKU to the championship, averages 16.0 points per game and is No. 1 on the team with 129 assists.

NKU senior forward Quentin Smith was named second team All-GLVC. Smith averages 13.2 ppg and a team-leading 7.8 rebounds per game. He is also shooting 53.7 percent from the field.

NKU sophomore guard Mike Kelsey earned honorable mention All-GLVC accolades.
