NKU DEFEATS NO. 5 USI, 87-79

NKU improves to 16-2 with victory over USI

 

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Freshman guard Brenden Stowers scored 16 points Thursday night as the Northern Kentucky University men’s basketball team defeated the University of Southern Indiana, 87-79, in Regents Hall.

Junior center Zach Wieber added 15 points and seven rebounds as NKU handed USI - ranked No. 5 nationally in the Division II Bulletin poll - its first Great Lakes Valley Conference loss of the season. The Screaming Eagles are now 14-2 overall, 9-1 in the GLVC.

Junior center Adam Norwell scored 14 points as the Norse improved to 16-2 overall, 8-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. NKU is ranked No. 10 in the latest Division II poll.

NKU - which has now won eight consecutive games since a 72-69 loss to Missouri Western State on Dec. 20 - will play host to Southern Illinois at Edwardsville at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday, and then hit the road for a Monday night game at Kentucky Wesleyan College at 8:30 p.m.

Kentucky Wesleyan owns the nation’s longest homecourt winning streak, which is 54 consecutive victories in the Owensboro Sportscenter.
