Rivermen hold off 12th-ranked Norse in St. Louis
ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Kechan Johnson scored 13 points Thursday night as the University of Missouri-St. Louis mens basketball team upset Northern Kentucky University, 65-57, at the Mark Twain Building.
UMSL (12-8) held NKU to just 20 percent shooting from the field during the first half and built a 33-15 halftime lead. The Norse made just 1 of 10 three-point shots before halftime, while UMSL connected on 55.6 percent of its shots from the field.
Freshman guard Brenden Stowers scored 14 points to lead the NKU attack. The Norse dropped to 19-4 overall, 11-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. NKU is ranked No. 12 nationally in the Division II Bulletin poll.
Craig Sanders and Craig Conley both added nine points for NKU, which will play at Quincy University at 4:30 p.m. this Saturday. The Norse are ranked No. 4 in the latest Great Lakes Region poll.
