MEIER EARNS PRESTIGIOUS AWARD

NACDA selects Meier as AD of the Year Award recipient

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University’s Jane Meier has been chosen as a recipient of the 2003-04 Athletic Director of the Year Award by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.

Meier, NKU’s athletic director since 1988, was named the NCAA Division II Southeast Region’s 2003-04 Athletic Director of the Year by NACDA. Twenty-four directors of athletics will be honored in the nation’s four regions - Northeast, Southeast, Central and West - in each of the six divisions.

Winners will be presented their awards at NACDA’s 39th annual convention during the James J. Corbett Awards luncheon this Saturday in Dallas, Texas.

During the past 16 years, Meier has built the NKU athletics program into one of the nation’s best. This past academic year, NKU captured five regular-season titles in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (women’s soccer, volleyball, softball, men’s tennis and women’s tennis).

NKU also won three GLVC Tournament championships (baseball, men’s tennis and women’s tennis).

In addition, nine of NKU’s 13 varsity sports qualified for the NCAA Division II Tournament in 2003-04. All six of NKU’s spring sports earned berths in the NCAA Division II Tournament, with the softball team advancing to the NCAA Division II World Series for the first time in history.

For three consecutive years (2000, 2001, 2002), NKU captured the GLVC All-Sports Trophy. In 2003, NKU was awarded the inaugural GLVC Commissioner’s Cup.

Since Meier became athletic director in 1988, NKU has won or shared 36 GLVC regular-season or tournament championships. In addition, 33 NKU student-athletes have been named GLVC Player of the Year during Meier’s tenure as athletic director.

During the 2000-01 academic year, Meier was named the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s National Administrator of the Year.
