NKU TIED FOR 2ND AFTER 1ST ROUND OF NCAAs
Norse just three strokes off lead after one round in NCAA Tournament
ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Northern Kentucky University mens golf team is tied for second place after the first round of play at the NCAA Division II North Regional Tournament with a total of 296 at the Mistwood Golf Course.
NKU is tied with the University of Missouri-St. Louis for second place, three strokes behind leader Ferris State University (293). A trio of Norse golfers - Scott Stark, Drew Von Lehman and Rob Mitchell - all shot 1-over-par 73 and are tied for seventh place in the individual competition.
The second round is scheduled for Tuesday, followed by the final round on Wednesday. The top five teams in the NCAA North Regional Tournament will advance to the NCAA Division II Championships May 16-19 at Turlock Country Club in Turlock, Calif. The finals will be hosted by California State University at Stanislaus.
NKU has not advanced to the NCAA Division II Championships since the 1996 season, when the Norse posted a 12th-place finish at the national finals.
