Norse compete at GLVC Championships this Saturday |

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University cross country teams will compete at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships this Saturday (Oct. 20) at Louisville, Ky. The NKU men are coming off a strong performance at the Hagan Stone Classic at Greensboro, N.C., last week. The Norse captured first-place honors in the eight-kilometer race and placed four runners in the top 20 finishers. NKU was led by Brian Alessandro, who posted a 10th-place finish with a time of 27:34. Ryan Carskadon finished 11th with a time of 27:36, while Kevin Alessandro posted a 13th-place finish with a time of 27:37. Doug Fulmer (28:07, 17th place) and Pat Sullivan (28:23, 20th place) also finished in the top 20 last Saturday. A year ago, the NKU mens cross country team posted a fifth-place finish at the 10-kilometer GLVC Championships. It was NKUs best finish at the GLVC Championships since 1993. The NKU womens cross country team also captured first-place honors at the Hagan Stone Classic last week with a strong effort in the five-kilometer race. Elaine Koenig posted a fourth-place finish with a time of 19:14 to pace NKU, and Lissa Faulkner finished sixth with a time of 19:46. Erin Engel posted a top-10 finish with a time of 20:14 (10th place), and Crystal Brefeld was 14th with a time of 20:34. Emily Sand finished 20th with a time of 20:49. The NKU womens cross country team posted an eighth-place finish at the GLVC Championships last season. The GLVC Championships will begin at 10 a.m. this Saturday. Bellarmine University is the host for the GLVC Championships. The University of Indianapolis is the defending mens team champion, and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside is the defending womens team champion. |
