HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University’s Hope Bushelman has been named Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year in women’s soccer.
Bushelman, a senior midfielder and a graduate of McNicholas High School, has led NKU to a 17-0-2 record and a No. 1 national ranking in the NCAA Division II poll. Bushelman’s defensive skills have helped the Norse post 11 shutouts this season, and her all-around ability as a midfielder has been a key element in the team’s current 19-game unbeaten streak.
Four other NKU players - seniors Stephanie Sandfoss and Kristen Noakes, junior Becky Schnieders and sophomore Robyn Withers - also earned first team All-GLVC honors. NKU junior goalie Megan Zalla was named second team All-GLVC.
Sandfoss leads the GLVC with 14 goals, while Noakes has scored nine goals this season. Schnieders and Withers have been defensive stalwarts for the Norse the entire season in the backfield, and Zalla owns a 0.52 goals against average.
In addition, NKU’s Bob Sheehan was named GLVC Coach of the Year for the fourth time in the past five years.
