HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Shannon Kimmel collected four hits and three runs batted in Sunday afternoon as the Indiana-Purdue University at Fort Wayne baseball team defeated Northern Kentucky University, 8-1. Jason Horvath allowed NKU just seven hits and picked up the complete-game win for IPFW (12-33 overall, 6-20 Great Lakes Valley Conference). NKU, which is now 36-19 overall, dropped to 13-14 in the GLVC. The Norse, however, are the No. 6 seed in this weeks GLVC Tournament and will meet top-seeded University of Indianapolis at 1:15 p.m. Thursday in the first round at Edwardsville, Ill. It is the first time since 1992 that NKU has qualified for the GLVC Tournament. NKU clinched a berth in the GLVC Tournament by sweeping a doubleheader from IPFW on Saturday. Junior catcher Jason Martin drove in four runs in the second game Saturday to lead the Norse. Martin now has 76 hits this season and needs just two in the GLVC Tournament to break the NKU single-season record of 77 (set by Alan Hayden in 1985).
