NKU SWEEPS IPFW TO CLINCH GLVC BERTH

Norse clinch berth in GLVC Tournament

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Josh Whaley pitched a two-hit shutout Saturday as the Northern Kentucky University baseball team defeated Indiana-Purdue University at Fort Wayne, 3-0, in the first game of a doubleheader.

NKU completed the doubleheader sweep with a 5-1 win in the second game, and the Norse clinched a berth in the upcoming Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament with the two victories on Saturday. NKU is now 36-18 overall, 13-13 in the GLVC, and the Norse will be the No. 6 seed in the GLVC Tournament May 10-13 at Edwardsville, Ill.

It is the first time since 1992 that NKU has qualified for the GLVC Tournament.

Jason Martin drove in four runs in the second game to lead NKU. Kyle Pfetzer picked up the win for NKU in the nightcap.
