ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Nick Johnson and Jeremy Leitzen both hurled complete-game shutouts Saturday as the Lewis University baseball team swept a doubleheader from Northern Kentucky University, 1-0 and 4-0, at Brennan Field. Mike Stacys sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning gave Lewis a 1-0 win in the opener. Johnson recorded 10 strikeouts in that game for Lewis. In the nightcap, Rhett Dwyer drove in two runs as the Flyers completed the sweep over NKU. Lewis improved to 24-25 overall, 9-13 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. NKU, which collected only seven hits in the doubleheader Saturday, dropped to 34-17 overall, 11-12 in the GLVC. The Norse, however, maintained their one-game lead over Saint Josephs College for the sixth and final berth in the upcoming GLVC Tournament. Saint Josephs was swept by the University of Indianapolis on Saturday, and the Pumas are 10-13 in the GLVC. NKU will complete its three-game series at Lewis with a 1 p.m. game Sunday. |
