HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Jason Martin had three hits and four runs batted in Friday as Northern Kentucky University rallied to defeat the University of Missouri-St. Louis, 10-7, in the second round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex at Friendship Field. Missouri-St. Louis held a 6-1 lead going into the bottom of the fifth inning, but NKU rallied for five runs to tie the game. Steve Waltons two-run double evened the score at 6-6, and those two RBI made Walton NKUs all-time single-season leader in that category with 66. NKU scored a pair of unearned runs in the sixth inning to grab an 8-6 advantage. Martins two-run home run in the eighth inning gave NKU a 10-6 lead. Martin now has 262 hits in his career and needs just two hits to become NKUs all-time leader in that category. Gary Flowerdew is currently NKUs all-time leader with 263 hits. Walton, Pat Eschan and Justin Rahschulte all added two hits for NKU, which improved to 33-22. Brandon Evans came out of the bullpen and pitched three innings of two-hit baseball to record the victory. NKU will meet Saint Josephs College at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in a winners bracket game. The winner of that game will advance to Sundays championship round. NKU is ranked No. 25 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll. |
