NKU’S BAYS THROWS NO-HITTER

Bays stars as Norse sweep doubleheader from Urbana

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Sophomore right-hander Lenny Bays tossed a no-hitter Saturday afternoon as Northern Kentucky University defeated Urbana (Ohio) University, 9-0, in the second game of a doubleheader at Friendship Field.

Bays, a graduate of Bellevue High School, also recorded eight strikeouts as NKU completed the sweep of the doubleheader. Junior first baseman Matt Mason dove in four runs with a pair of doubles to lead the NKU offensive attack.

NKU rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the opener, 3-2, when Mason broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring double off the center field wall. The Norse’s Kevin McElfresh tied the game at 2-2 with a two-run home run over the left field fence earlier in the seventh inning, setting the stage for Mason’s game-winning RBI double.

NKU improved to 2-2 with the sweep.
