HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University’s Derrik Moeves has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Moeves, a sophomore right-hander and a graduate of Highlands High School, posted a 2-0 record last week and did not allow an earned run in 13 innings on the mound. Moeves began the week by hurling a three-hitter during an 8-1 victory against the University of Indianapolis. He struck out seven batters and allowed one unearned run en route to the complete-game win.
He then combined on a two-hit shutout Saturday as NKU posted a 2-0 victory against Quincy University. In that game, Moeves scattered two hits in six innings to pick up the victory.
Moeves also struck out eight batters and lowered his earned run average to 1.85 this spring. For the week, Moeves was 2-0, posted a 0.00 ERA in 13 innings on the mound, struck out 15 batters and walked just three.
Moeves is 5-3 this season and leads the GLVC with 82 strikeouts. He also has a 1.85 ERA this spring.
