JEWELL SIGNS TO PLAY BASEBALL AT NKU

Franklin County prep standout to play for Norse

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Franklin County High School standout Kurt Jewell has signed a national letter of intent to attend Northern Kentucky University and play baseball next season.

Jewell, a second baseman and a 2004 graduate of Franklin County, batted .425 and scored 38 runs as a senior. He also finished with a .983 fielding percentage, had 30 stolen bases for the Flyers and was named to the 11th Region’s All-Tournament Team.

Jewell earned five letters in baseball at Franklin County, and he also lettered four times in soccer. As a soccer player, Jewell scored 30 goals as a senior and was named All-State and team most valuable player.

Jewell will join an NKU baseball program that posted a 37-25 record and captured the Great Lakes Valley Conference last season. The Norse also advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament for the second time in three years.
