NKU SWEEPS QUINCY

Rahschulte’s RBI single gives NKU 10-9 win

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Justin Rahschulte’s run-scoring single in the bottom of the ninth inning Sunday gave the Northern Kentucky University baseball team a 10-9 victory over Quincy University and a doubleheader sweep at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex at Friendship Field.

NKU held a 9-5 lead going into the bottom of the ninth inning, but a three-run home run by Garet Dinges cut the deficit to 9-8. Ricky Harbour then followed with a solo homer to left field that tied the game at 9-9.

Jason Martin started the NKU rally with a one-out single in the bottom of the ninth inning. After Steve Walton followed with another single, Keith Jackson pinch ran for Martin. Rahschulte then lined a single up the middle that scored Jackson, giving NKU a sweep of the three-game series.

Rahschulte finished the game with four hits and two RBI. He also became NKU’s all-time leader in triples when he collected his 12th career three-bagger in the fourth inning.

Martin added three hits for NKU, which now 28-21 overall, 18-7 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Norse lead the GLVC by one-half game over the University of Indianapolis, which split a doubleheader with Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville on Sunday.

Martin now has 253 career hits and needs just 11 to become NKU’s all-time career leader in that category. Gary Flowerdew is currently NKU’s all-time leader with 263 hits.

In the opener Sunday, NKU held off Quincy, 8-7. Martin and Pat Eschan both had three hits to lead the Norse in that game.

The Norse are ranked No. 3 in the latest NCAA II North Central Region poll.
