NKU SPLITS AT ASHLAND

Rahschulte’s two-run double gives Norse 6-5 win

ASHLAND, Ohio - Justin Rahschulte’s two-run double in the top of the seventh inning Wednesday gave the Northern Kentucky University baseball team a 6-5 win over Ashland University in the first game of a doubleheader.

NKU trailed 5-2 entering it final at-bat, but a two-run single by Jason Martin cut the deficit to 5-4. Rahschulte followed with a two-run double to give NKU a 6-5 advantage, and the Norse held off Ashland to record the victory.

Chris Unkraut picked up the win for the Norse, and Lenny Bays retired the final two batters to record the save.

Ashland, ranked No. 1 in the North Central Region poll, posted a 6-4 win in the nightcap to earn the split. NKU is 25-21, while Ashland is 33-10.

NKU - ranked No. 3 in the North Central Region - will return home this weekend to host Quincy University in a three-game series, beginning with a noon doubleheader on Saturday. NKU is 15-7 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and in second place, 1 1/2 games behind GLVC leader University of Indianapolis.
