NKU SWEEPS TWO AT LEWIS

Bays tosses three-hitter in opener

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Senior right-hander Lenny Bays tossed a three-hit shutout and also recorded 11 strikeouts Saturday as Northern Kentucky University defeated Lewis University, 1-0, in the first game of a doubleheader. Bays, a graduate of Bellevue High School, picked up the complete-game victory and upped his record to 6-2. He outdueled Lewis’ Jeremy Leitzen, who allowed just four hits and one run in 6 1/3 innings pitched. In the nightcap, Steve Walton had a pair of hits and four runs batted in as NKU posted a 10-4 win over the Flyers. Jason Martin and Pat Eschan each added three hits for the Norse, who improved to 23-20 overall, 14-7 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. NKU will meet Lewis in the finale of the three-game series at 1 p.m. Sunday.
