NKU SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER WITH LEWIS

NKU now 18-12 overall, 3-3 in the GLVC

 

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Andy Cox and Shaun Fausz came out of the bullpen and combined to pitch two perfect innings Saturday afternoon as Northern Kentucky University defeated Lewis University, 5-3, in the first game of a doubleheader at Friendship Field.

NKU starter Josh Whaley worked five innings and allowed Lewis three runs on five hits. Cox then relieved Whaley and pitched a perfect sixth inning, and Fausz followed in the seventh inning to pick up his eighth save of the season.

In the nightcap, Lewis rallied for three runs in the sixth inning and went on to post a 5-2 victory over NKU. Junior left-hander Cole Bertsch limited NKU to just two runs and picked up the complete-game victory for Lewis.

NKU is now 18-12 overall, 3-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Lewis is 18-13, 4-2 in the GLVC.
