NKU sophomore tabbed North Central Regions Pitcher of the Year |

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky Universitys Derrik Moeves has been named the NCAA Division II North Central Regions Pitcher of the Year by the American Baseball Coaches Association. Moeves, a sophomore right-hander and a graduate of Highlands High School, posted a 7-4 record with a 1.74 earned run average this spring. He also recorded a Norse single-season record 102 strikeouts in 2004 and was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year. Opposing hitters batted just .174 against Moeves, who did not allow a home run this season. In 82 2/3 innings on the mound, he surrendered only 49 hits and 16 earned runs. Justin Seiter, a junior right-hander and a graduate of Bishop Brossart High School, was named first team All-North Central Region. He had a team-leading nine saves and a 0.75 ERA this season. Seiter compiled a 5-2 record and limited opposing hitters to a .197 batting average. He was also named first team All-GLVC this spring. Moeves and Seiter will both be on the NCAA Division II All-America ballot, and the team will be announced next week. NKU won the GLVC Tournament championship this season and advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament. The Norse finished the 2004 campaign with a 37-25 record.
