INDIANAPOLIS - Northern Kentucky University’s Jayme Light has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in women’s soccer, the league office announced Monday.

Light, a senior forward and graduate of Colerain High School, scored two goals last week to lead the 16th-ranked Norse to a pair of GLVC victories. During NKU’s 3-0 win over visiting Lewis on Friday, Light took six shots, including three shots on goal, and converted the second goal of the game.

The insurance score pushed the Norse lead to 2-0 in the 27th minute of play. Light was assisted on the goal on a lead pass from Katie Guinn.

On Sunday, Light snapped a 2-all tie late in regulation by finding the back of the net with a penalty kick to give NKU a 3-2 win over Wisconsin-Parkside. With the score tied at 2-all, NKU’s Kara Costello was taken down inside the 18-yard box by a Wisconsin-Parkside defender in the 84th minute, forcing a penalty kick. Light converted the attempt to give NKU victory.

Light has five goals and one assist to lead the Norse in goals and points (11) this season. She also has two game-winning goals this season.

NKU (5-0, 2-0) will host Ashland on Friday at 5 p.m. in a non-conference contest at the Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder, Ky.
