INDIANAPOLIS
- Northern Kentucky University ran into a torrid Indianapolis volleyball
team Saturday afternoon and dropped a four-game decision to the
sizzling-hot Greyhounds in the Ruth Lilly Center.
Indianapolis
hit .327 for the match and posted a 30-18, 30-19, 32-34, 30-21 victory
over NKU in a Great Lakes Valley Conference showdown. The Greyhounds
extended their current winning streak to 12 straight and improved
to 15-1 overall, 6-0 in the GLVC.
NKU, ranked
No. 22 in the NCAA Division II poll, is 15-4 overall, 4-2 in the
GLVC.
Indianapolis
started off strong and attacked at a .424 clip in the first game
to cruise to a 30-18 win. NKU - which entered the match No. 1 in
the GLVC in hitting percentage - hit just .036 in the opener and
followed that with a .000 percentage in the second game to fall
behind 2-0.
The Norse battled
back in the third game and hit .447 to pull out a 34-32 win. Indianapolis
held match point at 29-28, but Liz Holmes blocked an attack by Jessica
Breeden to tie the game at 29-all. Tristen Dye and Kristina Eisenmenger
each converted attacks to stave off match Indianapolis points, and
Holmes combined with Chelsea Clark to block an attack by Cheneta
Morrison to give NKU a 34-32 victory.
NKU jumped out
to a 7-4 lead in the fourth game, but Indianapolis responded with
a 12-3 run to take a 16-10 advantage. The Norse pulled within two
points at 17-15, but the Greyhounds used a 5-1 run to extend their
lead to 22-16 and coasted to the victory by hitting .333 in the
fourth game.
Casey Chrzastowski
led Indianapolis with 18 kills, while Morrison added 17 kills and
hit .375. Breeden finished with 16 kills and attacked at a .375
clip, while teammate Liz Shuyler finished with 14 kills and hit
.444.
Eisenmenger
recorded 15 kills for NKU, which hit .201 as a team. Liz Holmes
and Tristen Dye each added 13 kills, while Clark finished with six
kills.
Holmes attacked
at a .360 clip and posted 10 digs. She also had six blocks (two
solo, four assisted) and one service ace.
Natalie Forbes
dished out 50 assists and added 13 digs for NKU. Forbes also collected
five blocks (two solo, three assisted).
Indianapolis
has now defeated NKU five consecutive times dating back to 2005.
The Greyhounds knocked off the Norse three times last season.
NKU plays host
to No. 14 Southern Illinois at Edwardsville this Friday at 7 p.m.
in Regents Hall. The Norse will also meet Southern Indiana the following
day at 3 p.m.
