INDIANAPOLIS
- Northern Kentucky University’s Liz Holmes has been selected
as the Baden/Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week, the
league office announced Monday.
Holmes, a graduate
of Mercy High School in Cincinnati, hit .544 and averaged 4.4 kills
per game last week as NKU won four of five matches, including a
four-game victory over No. 7 Hillsdale during the Ashland Invitational.
Holmes began
the week by hitting .579 with 13 kills during a sweep against Lincoln
Memorial. She followed that performance by hammering down 19 kills
and attacking at a .667 clip as NKU knocked off GLIAC power and
No. 7 Hillsdale in four games.
The 5-foot-10
senior middle hitter also added eight digs and three blocks in that
victory, and she converted a huge attack in the fourth set with
Hillsdale holding game point at 32-31. NKU eventually won that game
by a 37-35 score and took the match in four games.
Holmes concluded
the weekend by collecting 11 kills, five service aces and a .769
hitting percentage during a win over Kentucky Wesleyan, and she
added 15 kills and a .500 hitting percentage in the finale, a 3-0
win over Wheeling Jesuit. Holmes was also named to the all-tournament
team.
NKU will play
host to Bellarmine on Tuesday at 7 p.m. That match can also be heard
