HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Liz Holmes and Tristen Dye combined for 31 kills in their final home match Sunday afternoon as Northern Kentucky University swept the College of Mount St. Joseph in Regents Hall. Holmes finished with 16 kills and hit .536 as the Norse posted a 30-24, 30-15, 30-22 win. The senior middle hitter also added 10 digs and two serves aces. NKU, ranked No. 25 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll, attacked at a .381 clip and improved to 23-6 overall with the non-conference victory. Dye, a senior outside hitter, slammed down 15 kills and hit .333. She also served up six aces and collected 14 digs. Kristina Eisenmenger added 10 kills and attacked at a .500 clip for NKU. Katie Latenser recorded 11 digs and served up two aces, while teammate Megan Dooley finished with three aces and seven digs. NKU used good defense at the net in the opening game to pull out a 30-24 win. Holmes combined with Natalie Forbes and Dye for two blocks late in the game, while Dye and Annie Lucas teamed up to reject a Mount St. Joseph attack to give NKU a 29-23 lead. Dye finished off the game with a kill. Forbes finished with 47 assists, six digs and four kills. The junior setter also hit .500 and added two blocks. Anna Richter led Mount St. Joseph (15-14) with 10 kills and 15 digs. The Lions, members of NCAA Division III, hit .224 for the match. NKU travels to Owensboro, Ky., on Wednesday to meet Kentucky Wesleyan in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match. The Norse are 11-4 in the GLVC and in third place in the East Division standings. NKU’s match at Bellarmine, originally listed on the schedule for Oct. 23, will instead be played Oct. 30 at Louisville, Ky. The Norse close out the regular season with road matches at Wisconsin-Parkside (Nov. 2) and Lewis (Nov. 3). The GLVC Tournament begins Nov. 9 at the site of the No. 1 seed, which will likely be Indianapolis.
