INDIANAPOLIS
- Northern Kentucky University’s Liz Holmes has been selected
as the Baden/Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week, the
league office announced Monday.
Holmes, a graduate
of Mercy High School in Cincinnati, averaged 6.1 kills per game
and attacked at a .474 clip last week to lead NKU to a pair of wins.
Holmes also became the Norse's all-time career kills leader Friday
night when she converted an attack in the third game during a win
against Drury.
Holmes began
the week with 16 kills, 11 digs and a .429 hitting percentage during
a sweep of Rockhurst. She capped her week by hitting .512 with 27
kills and 16 digs as the Norse knocked off Drury.
Holmes, who
averaged a double-double (21.5 kills, 13.5 digs) in the two matches,
now has 1,714 career kills. She entered last week tied for the national
lead in hitting percentage.
This marks the
third time this season Holmes has earned the GLVC weekly honor.
NKU (21-5 overall,
10-3 GLVC) plays host to Saint Joseph's at 7 p.m. Friday in Regents
Hall. The Norse's four seniors - Holmes, Brittany Dixon, Elizabeth
Droessler and Tristen Dye - will be recognized prior to the match
in Senior Night festivities.
The following
day at 3 p.m., GLVC-leading Indianapolis - which has won 20 consecutive
matches and is ranked No. 1 in the NCAA Division II Great Lakes
Region poll - visits Regents Hall. The Greyhounds are currently
23-1 overall and are unbeaten (13-0) in the GLVC.
Indianapolis
has beaten NKU five consecutive times dating back to 2005. Earlier
this season, the Greyhounds took a four-game decision against the
Norse at Indianapolis.
