INDIANAPOLIS - Northern Kentucky University’s Liz Holmes has been selected as the Baden/Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Holmes, a graduate of Mercy High School in Cincinnati, hit .552 and averaged 6.1 kills per game last week as NKU defeated No. 12 Southern Illinois at Edwardsville and Southern Indiana. Holmes dominated the net on Friday night during a four-game win over SIUE with 23 kills while attacking at a .450 clip.

She also added 18 digs and three blocks as the Norse stopped the Cougars' GLVC regular-season winning streak at 37 consecutive matches. It marked the fourth time this season that NKU has knocked off a team in the national rankings.

Holmes capped the week on Saturday by slamming down 20 kills and hitting .704 as NKU swept Southern Indiana. The senior middle hitter converted the 20 kills in just 27 attempts with one error. She also added eight digs and three blocks in that match and moved into second place on the NKU all-time list with 1,623 career kills.

Holmes needs 79 kills to pass Bethany Gastright (1,702 kills) for the top spot in Norse history. This is the second time this season Holmes has earned the GLVC weekly honor.

NKU hits the road this week for three GLVC matches, beginning with Missouri-St. Louis on Thursday night. The Norse play at Missouri-Rolla on Friday night, and conclude the trip Saturday afternoon with a match at Quincy.
