WILDER, Ky. - Perfection still describes the men’s soccer team at Northern Kentucky University after the Norse’s 3-0 win over Wisconsin-Parkside in the first round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament on Sunday.

NKU - ranked No. 1 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll - totally dominated both sides of the field, finished with a 29-3 edge in shot attempts and improved to 19-0 with the victory. The Norse advanced to the GLVC Tournament semifinals, which will be played at the Town & Country Sports Complex Nov. 2 and 4.

NKU plays No. 5 seed Rockhurst at 7:30 p.m. Friday in one semifinal contest. No. 3 seed Lewis meets No. 7 seed Indianapolis in the first semifinal at 5 p.m. The GLVC Tournament championship game is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m.

In the first-round contest against Wisconsin-Parkside, NKU struck in the 29th minute when Steven Beattie found the back of the net with his eighth goal of the season off an assist from Andy Bacon. Beattie later assisted Braden Bishop’s 14th goal of the season with a perfectly placed corner kick that Bishop headed in past Ranger goal Victor Perez for a 2-0 NKU advantage.

Tony Capurro capped the scoring for the top-rated Norse in the 76th minute off assists from Bishop and Chad Cook. The NKU defense allowed just one shot on goal for Wisconsin-Parkside, and the Norse eliminated the Rangers (11-7-1) from postseason play for the third consecutive year.

Two years ago, NKU knocked off Wisconsin-Parkside in the first round of the GLVC Tournament. Last season, the Norse posted a 4-0 win over the Rangers in the NCAA Tournament.

Wisconsin-Parkside is 0-5-1 against NKU in their past six meetings. The tie came last season in the GLVC Tournament, when the Rangers advanced on penalty kicks.
