Eisenmenger attacks vs. Indy |
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS,
Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University volleyball team was hoping
to administer a little payback Friday night when Indianapolis visited
Regents Hall.
Instead, the
Norse were forced to watch a repeat performance by the Greyhounds,
who posted a three-game sweep over NKU for the second time this
season.
Indianapolis
limited NKU to a .125 hitting percentage and emerged with a 30-25,
31-29, 30-24 win. Sophomore outside hitter Casey Chrzastowski led
the Greyhounds with 12 kills and a .476 hitting percentage.
Senior middle
hitter Lynne Ross collected nine kills and attacked at a .316 clip
for the Greyhounds. Ross also finished with eight block assists
and two solo blocks.
Indianapolis
improved to 13-4 overall, 5-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
NKU, which had won three straight matches entering Friday, is 8-8
overall, 3-2 in the GLVC.
After falling
behind by eight points (23-15) in the opening game, NKU rallied
and pulled within 28-25 on two consecutive kills by Kristina Eisenmenger.
Ross, however, converted an attack to make it 29-25 and a Norse
hitting error gave the Greyhounds a 30-25 victory.
Indianapolis
built a 5-0 lead in the second game, but NKU used the attacking
of Liz Holmes and consecutive points off blocks to tie the stanza.
Holmes and Andrea Lanham first combined for a block, then Elizabeth
Droessler and Tristen Dye teamed up to stuff an attack by Karla
Mast to tie the score at 8-all.
With Indianapolis
holding a 28-27 lead, Tristen Dye slammed down one of her eight
kills to tie the game. A service error by Holmes gave Indianapolis
a 29-28 lead, but Droessler and Lanham blocked an attack by Mast
to tie the score at 29-all.
After a hitting
error gave Indianapolis a 30-29 lead, Ross ended the game with a
kill. The Greyhounds jumped out to a 5-0 lead again in the third
game and held off a late NKU rally to wrap up the season sweep of
the Norse.
Holmes led NKU
with 11 kills, while Eisenmenger added 10 kills. Lanham dished out
36 assists and had nine digs for the Norse, while teammate Megan
Dooley served up four aces. NKU owns a 34-6 lead in the all-time
series with Indianapolis, but the Greyhounds have won six of the
past 10 meetings.
NKU will play
host to Saint Joseph's at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Norse continue the
homestand Monday at 7 p.m. when West Virginia State visits Regents
Hall.
