LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Since the 1992 season, Northern Kentucky University has completely dominated the volleyball series with Bellarmine. In fact, going into Tuesday night's Great Lakes Valley Conference match in Knights Hall, NKU owned 27 consecutive victories against Bellarmine. The streak is now at 28 straight after the Norse's 30-13, 30-19, 30-28 win over the Knights. NKU has not lost to Bellarmine since the 1992 GLVC Tournament. Tristen Dye continued her strong attacking by recording 12 kills and hitting .400 for NKU, which improved to 8-7 overall, 3-1 in the GLVC. Dye, a junior outside hitter from Millersburg, Ohio, also had 15 digs. Liz Holmes added 10 kills and attacked at a .625 clip for the Norse, who finished with a .438 hitting percentage. Holmes, who was named GLVC Player of the Week on Monday, also collected six digs and two solo blocks. NKU used a 15-4 run in the opening game to build a 21-9 lead and coasted. In the second game, NKU hit .500 and rolled to the win. Bellarmine (5-5 overall, 2-2 GLVC) made it interesting in the third game, and the Knights built a 20-17 lead after a kill by Chelsea Biblehauser. Holmes countered with a kill to make it 20-18, and the Norse freshman Megan Dooley took over with her jump serve. Dooley, a graduate of St. Henry High School, served up three consecutive aces to give NKU a 21-20 lead and the momentum. Bellarmine fought back and tied the game at 28-all, but a kill by Jennifer Wirtz gave NKU a 29-28 lead, setting the stage for a match-ending combined block by Holmes and Kristina Eisenmenger on an attack by Biblehauser. Senior setter Andrea Lanham efficiently ran the NKU offense and finished with 39 assists and five kills. Lanham also served up three aces and hit .500 for the match. Biblehauser led Bellarmine with 16 kills but was limited to a .191 hitting percentage. Indianapolis will visit Regents Hall at 7 p.m. Friday to meet NKU in a key GLVC match. Earlier this season, the Greyhounds posted a three-game sweep against the Norse. NKU will also play host to Saint Joseph's at 2 p.m. Saturday. |
