----Liz Holmes: GLVC Player of the Week

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University's Liz Holmes has been named Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in volleyball.

Holmes, a junior middle hitter, guided the Norse to a pair of victories last week and collected her 1,000th career kill in the process. She notched 15 kills in a 30-24, 30-26, 30-21 win over Georgetown (Ky.) last Thursday. Holmes also added eight digs, two blocks and hit .500 in that victory over the nation's 16th-ranked NAIA team.

Holmes also became just the 11th player in Norse history to reach 1,000 career kills when she hammered down an attack against Georgetown in the third game. A graduate of Mercy High School in Cincinnati, Holmes enters this week with 1,009 career kills.

On Saturday, Holmes helped the Norse sweep past visiting Wheeling Jesuit, 30-15, 30-16, 30-15. She recorded nine kills, seven digs, two blocks and a service ace in the victory. She also finished with a .538 hitting percentage in that match.

For the week, Holmes averaged four kills, 2.5 digs, 0.67 blocks per game and finished the week with a hitting percentage of .513. Holmes is averaging 3.0 kills, 2.4 digs, 0.45 blocks per game this season and is currently ranked sixth in the GLVC with 0.53 service aces per game.

NKU improved to 7-7 overall with the wins last week and is currently 2-1 in the GLVC. The Norse return to action at Bellarmine Tuesday at 7 p.m.

NKU has defeated Bellarmine 27 consecutive times entering the Tuesday match in Louisville, Ky. The Norse have not lost to the Knights since the 1992 GLVC Tournament.

A year ago, NKU knocked off Bellarmine twice. The Norse defeated the Knights in four games at Louisville, Ky., and later recorded a 3-0 sweep in Regents Hall.

Indianapolis will visit Regents Hall at 7 p.m. Friday to meet NKU in a key GLVC match. The Norse will also play host to Saint Joseph's at 2 p.m. Saturday.
