MEMPHIS, Tenn.
- Liz Holmes was at her thunderous best Saturday afternoon as Northern
Kentucky University won a pair of matches.
Holmes hammered
down 19 kills and attacked at an .826 clip in the opener as NKU
defeated Ouachita Baptist, 30-13, 30-23, 30-14. The junior middle
hitter later collected 15 kills and hit .367 as the Norse knocked
off host Christian Brothers, 29-31, 30-27, 30-19, 30-26.
Holmes added
three service aces and 11 digs against Ouachita Baptist, and she
recorded her 19 kills without an error in 23 attempts. Kristina
Eisenmenger finished with 10 kills and a .391 hitting percentage
as NKU attacked at a .437 clip against Ouachita Baptist.
In the second
match, Tristen Dye slammed down 24 kills, collected 12 digs and
hit .583 as NKU rallied past Christian Brothers. Andrea Lanham dished
out 54 assists, had five kills and hit .364 for the Norse, who rallied
from a 23-20 deficit in the second game to pull out a 30-27 win.
Megan Dooley
served up five aces and finished with eight digs against Christian
Brothers, while Lindsay Zumdick added 11 digs and three aces. Holmes
and Lanham each served up three aces for NKU, which finished with
17 as a team.
Andrea Price
notched 12 kills for NKU, which hit .309 against Christian Brothers.
Holmes led NKU with four blocks, and the Norse avenged last year's
loss to the Buccaneers.
Holmes, a graduate
of Mercy High School in Cincinnati, now has 1,167 career kills.
She needs 17 kills to move into eighth place on the Norse's all-time
career list in that category. Lanham increased her career assists
total to 4,350, and the Notre Dame Academy graduate is 622 shy of
passing Molly Donovan as NKU's all-time leader in that category.
NKU, which extended
its winning streak to three, improved to 15-10 overall. The Norse
resume Great Lakes Valley Conference action Tuesday at 7 p.m. when
Bellarmine visits Regents Hall.
NKU will hit
the road next weekend for matches at Lewis (Friday) and Wisconsin-Parkside
(Saturday).
