Ill. - Alyssa Carlotta recorded 15 kills and hit .464 as Indianapolis
eliminated Northern Kentucky University from the Great Lakes Valley
Conference Tournament with a four-game victory Thursday night in
the opening round.
Indianapolis
attacked at a .351 clip and held NKU to a .148 hitting percentage
en route to a 30-17, 24-30, 30-22, 30-27 victory in the Vadalabene
Center. The Greyhounds finished with a 23-6 advantage in blocks
and defeated NKU for the third time this season.
Liz Holmes led
NKU (20-13) with 21 kills and attacked at a .410 clip. Holmes, a
junior middle hitter from Cincinnati who will enter next season
with 1,295 career kills, added two service aces and six digs.
Kristina Eisenmenger
had 15 kills for NKU, while teammate Tristen Dye finished with 14
kills. Senior setter Andrea Lanham, in her final match with the
Norse, collected a double-double with 51 assists and 12 digs.
Lanham, a graduate
of Notre Dame Academy, ended her career with 4,726 assists to rank
No. 2 in Norse history.
Lynne Ross and
Cassie Schott each had 11 kills for Indianapolis (24-9). Ross led
the Greyhounds at the net with nine blocks.
It marked the
first time in history that NKU lost three times in a season to Indianapolis.
Before Thursday's setback, NKU had not lost in the opening round
of the GLVC Tournament since 1993.
