| HIGHLAND HEIGHTS,
Ky. - Former Northern Kentucky University volleyball player Amber
Timmons has been chosen as a recipient of the Division II Degree-Completion
Award Program.
Timmons, who lettered
in volleyball at NKU from 2001-04, is one of 91 applicants to receive
degree-completion funds for 2005-06. The committee also chose 12
alternates in the event that any of the recipients decline their
award.
The Division II Degree-Completion
Award Program was founded in 2001, when 32 awards were distributed
in 2001-02. The program provides financial assistance to deserving
student-athletes for the completion of their first baccalaureate
degree.
To receive the award,
students must have completed their athletic eligibility and received
financial aid for athletics. Recipients must have solid academic
credentials. The committee also considers financial circumstances,
athletic achievement and involvement in campus and community activities
when making its funding decisions.
The funding must be
used to complete undergraduate degree requirements at the Division
II institution where the applicant last competed.
Timmons, a native of
Muncie, Ind., recorded 386 digs and 21 service aces during her senior
season at NKU. She finished fifth on the Norse’s all-time
list in career digs with 1,205.
