LOUISVILLE, Ky. - A pair of RBIs in the top of the seventh inning
gave the Northern Kentucky University softball team a 4-2 win in
Game 2 and helped the Norse manage a doubleheader split against
Bellarmine in Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Thursday.
Rose
Broderick singled up the middle to bring in Chelsea Toler to
give the Norse the lead, while back-to-back walks to Amanda Smith
and Katybeth Coode forced in the insurance run.
Northern Kentucky
got on the board in the top of the first on back-to-back RBI-singles
from April Ehlers and Cara Parker. Bellermine got the runs back
in the fifth after Angel Zimmerman's bases-clearing triple brought
in a pair.
Chelsie Roy (5-4) got the win, striking out five batters
in a complete-game performance. Stephanie West was 3-for-4 and
stole three bases to pace the Norse offense.
Game 1 saw Bellarmine
come from two runs down to post a 4-3 victory.
After Kim Locke's
RBI-double in the first inning opened the scorebook for Bellarmine,
NKU answered with three runs in the third inning, all scoring due
to Bellarmine errors.
Bellarmine tied the game at 3-all in the fifth
on Emily O'Bryan's two-run double, and the Knights took the lead
for good in the sixth with Linnsey Cabbage's RBI-single to plate
Locke.
April Ehlers (8-14) took the loss for the Norse, going
five innings with four strikeouts and two walks.
Northern
Kentucky (19-25, 8-14 GLVC) will wrap up the regular season this
weekend at home, hosting No. 22-ranked Southern Illinois Edwardsville
on Saturday before the season finale against Quincy on Sunday.
First pitch each day is scheduled for noon.
