KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Northern Kentucky University softball team’s losing streak was extended to five games on Wednesday after dropping two games in the Rebel Spring Games. The Norse were defeated by Pfeiffer, 5-2, before falling to Minnesota-Duluth, 1-0.

Pfeiffer scored four runs in the fifth inning en route to a 5-2 victory in Game 1 action. Tiffany Allen was 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Falcons. Gretchen Lorenz hit a two-run homer in the top of the sixth, putting an exclamation point on her 2-for-3 game.

Amanda Smith (1-1) took the loss, pitching five innings with three strikeouts. Chelsie Roy pitched an inning of scoreless relief for the Norse.

Ashley Johnson’s RBI single in the top of the fourth was enough to propel Minnesota-Duluth to a 1-0 victory over NKU in the Bulldogs’ season opener. Kristen Danielson pitched a near-flawless game for Duluth, surrendering just one hit to the Norse while striking out three. Heather Stempter pitched 2 1/3 innings in relief to pick up her first save of the season.

April Ehlers (1-6) had another stellar pitching day, scattering just four hits while striking out nine and allowing just one earned run.

Northern Kentucky (2-10) will conclude its Spring Break trip on Thursday, facing Upper Iowa and No. 17 LIU-C.W. Post.
