DECATUR, Ala.
- Sarah King’s three-run homer in the top of the 10th inning
highlighted a six-run outburst as Northern Kentucky University defeated
North Alabama, 8-3, at the Charger Softball Chillout.

went 4-for-5 and scored twice to lead the NKU offense, while King
was 3-for-5 with four runs batted in. After the Norse had already
snapped a 2-2 tie with three runs in the 10th inning, King stepped
to the plate with two runners aboard and smashed a three-run homer
to left field.
North Alabama
scored a run in the bottom of the inning to make it 8-3, but NKU
pitcher Amanda Smith picked up the complete-game victory. Shatona
Campbell also homered for the Norse.
In the nightcap,
tournament host Alabama-Huntsville erupted for seven runs in the
second inning and posted an 8-0 win over NKU. Kristen Spencer hit
a three-run homer to spark the second-inning outburst for the Chargers.
The Norse,
who began the day with a 6-3 loss to West Florida, are 4-4. NKU
will play Emporia State and West Georgia on Saturday to conclude
the tournament.
