MISSION, Kan. – The Northern Kentucky University women’s
soccer cracked into the top 10 in this week’s NCAA Division
II national poll.
The Norse moved up to
No. 9, up three spots from last week’s
ranking. They share the honor with the College of St. Rose (N.Y.).
Grand Valley State remained in the nation’s top spot for
the third straight week.
NKU took a couple of hard-fought 2-1 victories
last weekend. Against non-conference foe Ashland on Friday, Jayme
Light scored just 27
seconds into the game and Kara Costello added her first collegiate
marker in the 64th minute. Against Great Lakes Valley Conference
foe Bellarmine on Sunday, NKU needed a header from Caitlin Mueller
in the 72nd minute to erase a 1-0 deficit and a two-on-one breakaway
goal from Lauren Franzen with 14 seconds remaining in double-overtime
to take the victory.
Defending GLVC champion Quincy re-entered
the national poll at No. 20.
NKU (7-0, 3-0 GLVC) hits the road
to take on Missouri-Rolla (Friday) and Missouri-St. Louis (Sunday)
in GLVC play.
