HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University women’s soccer team enters Great Lakes Valley Conference play this weekend when the Norse host Lewis at 5 p.m. Friday at the Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder.

The Norse enter the contest with a 3-0 record after defeating Findlay, 3-1, last Friday on the strength of a pair of goals by Jayme Light. The win earned the Norse a No. 16 national. Light shares the team lead in goals (3) and points (7).

Lewis suffered its first loss of the season last week, falling to Northern Michigan, 4-0, to drop to 2-1.

Lauren Franzen also leads the NKU offense after netting a hat trick against Concord in a 4-0 victory. Freshman Kendall Day has enjoyed a strong early-season performance by posting two goals and two assists in her first three games.

Alayna Fontaine has picked up two shutouts in her first three collegiate matches, allowing just one goal in her last 270 minutes in net. Fontaine has been helped by a strong defense, which has allowed just 20 shots and only six on goal. Sophomore Hope Zinser and freshman Caitlin Mueller have been two of the standouts on defense for NKU.

NKU will conclude this weekend’s conference action Sunday at noon when it will host Wisconsin-Parkside at Wilder.
