WILDER, Ky. – Freshman Kendall Day started off her career
impressively Friday night, netting the Northern Kentucky University
women’s soccer team’s first goal of the season as the
Norse defeated Tiffin, 2-0, at the Town & Country Sports Complex.
Day (Lakota East High School) scored in the 10th minute off an
assist from Cara Alldred. After stripping the Dragons of the ball,
Alldred threaded a perfect pass to Day, who rocketed a shot at
Tiffin goalkeeper Abby Grieser. The ball glanced off Grieser’s
hands and into the net for Day’s first collegiate goal.
NKU’s Jayme Light found the back of the net later by scoring
her 26th career goal in the 50th minute. The senior captain, a
graduate of Colerain High School, tallied her goal off an assist
from Hope Zinser.
The Norse defense limited the Tiffin (0-1) attack to just eight
shots, and redshirt freshman goalie Alayna Fontaine picked up two
saves to post her first collegiate victory.
NKU (1-0) will face Concord (W. Va.) on Sunday at 9 a.m.
