OWENSBORO, Ky.
– Jayme Light scored two goals and added a pair of assists
to lead Northern Kentucky University to a 5-3 victory over Kentucky
Wesleyan on Sunday.
Ashley Warndorf
also scored two goals and assisted another for NKU, which improved
to 12-4 overall. The Norse finished 9-4 in the Great Lakes Valley
Conference and are the No. 5 seed in the upcoming GLVC Tournament.
NKU will play
at No. 4 seed Indianapolis in the first round Oct. 22. Indianapolis
posted a 2-1 win over NKU earlier this season at Wilder, Ky.,
Warndorf started
the NKU scoring barrage just 3:41 into the game Sunday by finding
the back of the net off assists from Amy Law and Lauren Franzen.
After Kentucky Wesleyan’s Nora Karvonen tied the score with
a goal at the 4:52 mark, Light answered with her first tally of
the day to give NKU a 2-1 advantage.
Cara Alldred
made it 3-1 at the 24:34 mark with a goal that was assisted by both
Light and Carla Schierloh. Light scored her second goal of the afternoon
in the 39th minute off an assist from Hope Zinser and NKU took a
4-2 lead at intermission.
Warndorf capped
the scoring in the 65th minute with a goal that was assisted by
Light. NKU finished with a 21-15 edge in shot attempts and a 4-0
advantage in corner kicks. The Norse remained perfect (10-0) all-time
in the series against Kentucky Wesleyan (3-13-1, 1-12 GLVC).
Light, a junior
from Colerain High School in Cincinnati, leads NKU with 11 goals
this season. She also has six assists this fall. The Norse will
close out their home season Wednesday night against Findlay at the
Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder, Ky.
