HIGHLAND HEIGHTS,
Ky. - Northern Kentucky University’s Kristen Votapek has been
voted Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year in women’s
soccer by the league coaches.
Votapek, a
senior and a graduate of Amelia High School in Cincinnati, leads
the Great Lakes Valley Conference in goals scored (15) and assists
(16). She has led NKU to a 17-2 record this fall and a No. 6 ranking
in the latest Division II national poll.
Joining Votapek on the
All-GLVC first team were Norse teammates Katie Hanck, Amy Martini
and Amy Law. NKU’s Jeanna Goettelman was chosen to the second
team.
Hanck, a senior sweeper
and a graduate of Fairfield High School, has anchored an NKU defense
that has allowed just 12 goals this season. Martini, a senior midfielder
and a graduate of Oak Hills High School, has two goals and five
assists this season.
Law, a junior midfielder
and a graduate of Glen Este High School, has 12 goals and seven
assists this fall. Goettelman, a sophomore midfielder/forward from
Cincinnati, has scored five goal and added eight assists.
NKU’s Alex Armstrong
was named GLVC Freshman of the Year and earned honorable mention
All-GLVC accolades. Armstrong, a graduate of Anderson High School,
has nine goals and seven assists this season. The Norse’s
Bob Sheehan was selected as GLVC Coach of the Year for the sixth
time in his career.
NKU will meet Southern
Illinois at Edwardsville at noon Sunday in the GLVC championship
game at Wilder, Ky.
