ST. LOUIS -
Jeanna Goettelman and Catie Walton each scored first-half goals
Friday to lead the Northern Kentucky University women’s soccer
team to a 3-1 victory over Missouri-St. Louis at the Don Dallas
Memorial Field.
Kristen Votapek added
a goal in the second half as NKU defeated Missouri-St. Louis for
the 13th consecutive time. The Riverwomen have not beaten NKU since
the 1997 season, and the Norse upped their lead in the all-time
series to 13-1.
Goettelman
and Walton also collected assists for NKU, which extended its winning
streak to six and improved to 10-2 overall, 7-1 in the Great Lakes
Valley Conference. The Norse are ranked 18th nationally in the latest
NCAA Division II poll.
Goettelman
began the scoring by firing in a shot from 18 yards out at the 36:29
mark. Walton, who scored three goals last Sunday against Bellarmine,
found the back of the net with a 15-yard shot with just 48 seconds
remaining before halftime to give NKU a 2-0 lead.
After Missouri-St.
Louis cut the lead to 2-1 on a goal by Meghan Tragesser at the 69:30
mark, Votapek sealed the win for NKU by taking a pass from Walton
and drilling a shot past Missouri-St. Louis goalie Mary Behrmann.
It was the 10th goal of the season for Votapek, a senior forward
and a graduate of Amelia High School.
NKU concludes
its road trip at 1 p.m. Sunday with a GLVC contest at Missouri-Rolla.
NKU will then play host to GLVC-leading Southern Illinois at Edwardsville
next Friday at 5 p.m. in a game that will likely decide the No.
1 seed in the upcoming GLVC Tournament.
