HIGHLAND HEIGHTS,
Ky. - Northern Kentucky University women’s basketball head
coach Nancy Winstel announced Tuesday the signings of three prep
standouts for the 2008-09 season. They are:
• Sadie Bowling, a 5-foot-10 guard/forward
at Madison (Ind.) Consolidated High School.
• Whitney
Levering, a 6-foot-1 power forward at Fredericktown (Ohio)
High School.
• Casse
Mogan, a 5-foot-10 point guard at Circleville (Ohio) High
School.
“We try
to build the foundation of our program with freshmen, and I feel
very good about this class,” Winstel said. “These three
players do a great deal to make their teams successful in high school.
They score, they rebound, they handle the ball, and we are excited
about this group.”
Bowling averaged
15.8 points per game and 7.8 rebounds as a junior and was named
All-Hoosier Hills Conference first team. She currently has scored
959 career points at Madison.
“Sadie
is an extremely versatile player who is strong, and she is good
at posting up or putting the ball on the floor,” Winstel said.
“I see her playing (small forward) at NKU. She is an outstanding
prospect.”
Levering averaged
14.2 points per game as a junior. She earned first team All-Mid
Buckeye Conference honors and was selected the District 11 co-Player
of the Year in Division III. Levering has scored 846 career points
entering her senior year at Fredericktown.
“Whitney
will remind our fans of (former NKU player) Katie Butler because
of her ability to step out and shoot the 3-pointer, even though
she is a tall player,” Winstel said. “Whitney has also
been a very versatile player in high school and done everything
to help her team win. She has a lot of ability and played for a
very good AAU team, too.”
Mogan averaged
16.3 points per game as a junior at Circleville. She earned second
team Division II all-state honors in Ohio from the Associated Press
as a junior and received special mention all-state accolades as
a sophomore. Mogan was also named to the Mid-State League’s
All-Buckeye Division first team as a junior.
“Casse
is a point guard who can really score, and she is a great athlete
who does a lot on the court,” Winstel said. “She can
create a shot, knock down the 3-pointer, or drive and pass the ball.
Casse can really jump, too, and she is a very confident player with
a lot of leadership qualities.”
NKU is currently
2-0 and ranked No. 15 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll. The
Norse have advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament eight times
in the past nine years and captured the 2000 national championship.
