HIGHLAND HEIGHTS,
Ky. - Northern Kentucky University women’s basketball head
coach Nancy Winstel announced Tuesday that Conner High School standout
Stephanie Hodges has signed a national letter of intent to play
for the Norse.
Hodges, a 5-foot-10
guard/forward, scored 1,070 career points for Conner. She was named
the most valuable player of the Ninth Region Tournament as a senior
after leading the Cougars to the regional championship.
As a senior,
Hodges averaged 14.1 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. She also
dished out 4.0 assists per contest as Conner advanced to the state
tournament.
“Stephanie
is a versatile athlete who did just about everything for Conner,
and she is a great catch for us,” said Winstel, who guided
NKU to the NCAA Division II national championship in March. “Her
rebounding, defense and passing skills are her biggest strengths,
but we also think she is going to be a viable scorer.
“She grew
up a big NKU basketball fan, and Stephanie has a great deal of potential.
She is going to be a great addition to our program.”
Hodges grabbed
853 career rebounds for Conner and took an average of nearly two
charges per game. She is the fourth recruit signed by Winstel for
next season, joining incoming freshmen Sadie Bowling, Whitney Levering
and Casse Mogan.
Bowling, Levering
and Mogan all signed with NKU during November.
NKU welcomes
back three starters from its NCAA Division II national championship
team. The Norse finished 28-8 this past season en route to capturing
their second national championship. NKU also won the 2000 NCAA Division
II national title.
