HIGHLAND HEIGHTS,
Ky. - Get out the leisure suits, put on your choker beads and don’t
forget the bellbottoms, because Regents Hall goes totally retro
- 1970s style - on Feb. 16, when both Northern Kentucky University
basketball teams say a final farewell to their home gymnasium during
a doubleheader against Indianapolis.
The women’s
game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 16 in a special start time,
and the men’s contest follows at 7 p.m. Members of the first
men's and women's teams will be recognized that evening, and both
NKU squads will wear throwback jerseys that the first teams wore
in the 1970s.
The Norse basketball
teams will move into their new on-campus home, The Bank of Kentucky
Center, beginning in 2008-09. Regents Hall has been home to NKU
basketball since the 1972-73 season.
Members of the
1971-72 Norse men’s basketball team, the first in the school’s
history, did not have a home gym in which to play games or practice.
The first NKU women’s team played its inaugural season in
1974-75, and current Norse head coach Nancy Winstel was a member
of that squad.
